The Troubles with Trekkies: Indie Apocalypse

June 22, 2016

Ty and Lou go beyond Star Trek with Dan Thale of Star Trek Futures and Alec Peters of Star Trek Axanar to talk about fan films and the troubles that can arise when creating a project with an existing intellectual property. Both our guests share the inspiration behind their projects and totally geek out on their knowledge of the Star Trek universe, but ultimately find themselves up against barriers in the form of fan outrage and studio legalities. We cover J.J.'s questionable announcement about the lawsuit and what that means for the future of Axanar, and we continue our geek conversation with Crysstal Hubbard covering more superhero TV, movie and comic news. And finally Lou shares his ultimate movie mashup idea. Not to be missed.

Artistic Expression vs. Audience Reception: Indie Apocalypse

June 15, 2016

Ty and Lou are joined by David Villa to talk about getting your feet wet as a new independent film-maker with a web series. Our discussion touches on the fact that individual film knowledge, education and experience are all very different, and that the individual beliefs a film-maker may hold about production quality are outweighed by the audience’s requirements to pay attention. Ty talks about the mass cancellations happening on TV and why the Nielsen ratings negatively impact programming and Lou beefs on Without a Box … again. Whaaa-aaat?. This is a great episode for all film-makers as we debate the idea of artistic view vs. production quality.

Shane P. Allen Gets Sullyed: Indie Apocalypse

June 4, 2016

This week Ty and Lou are back with Sofia Carrillo to talk with Shane P. Allen about acting. Shane got his start as an actor in the 80s, took some time to raise a family and is now back in the game. We discuss how the industry has changed, how to react to working with celebrities and how commercial work and background extra work can allow actors time to focus on projects they want to do. Shane also shares a few personal stories from the set and what his experience was like working on Clint Eastwood’s upcoming film Sully with Tom Hanks and Aaron Eckhart.
